Podcast Series - We need your 5 minute story for the Oral History Project as a digital file please!
To kick start the collected materials of the HHM, we are recording locals. But we need you to record yourself or someone you know in Halling who has a "good story to tell." Please keep the recording to no more than 5 minutes and send the digital file to HHM via email. Contact us here on the website first re signing a form to give us permission to publish and broadcast your audio Oral History file on our site, in the future exhibition centre etc.
Invite Archeological Societies (+Kent "Finds Officers") to Dig on Halling Marsh & Explore the Pits
We've already received interest from nearby archeological societies who would like to run long term, funded digs in the area. On Halling Marsh and in the old chalk mines, the pits and other sites. They think there could be finds like in Snodland and Holborough ie Roman artefacts and objects from the Middle Ages. Anyone interested in helping to get the archeological digs going in Halling, please contact HHM via our contact page.
Grant Applications for 2 x Containers: Archive & Exhibition "Mixed Reality" Displays 2020-2022
The initiator and facilitator of HHM Tania Peitzker-Lingham is from the Mixed Reality industry. One way to compress a lot of info into a small space is using these new technologies.
We might be able to get sponsors in future using Tania's networks. In the meantime, we are applying for initial grants to get the basic infrastructure set up ie 2 x converted industrial containers to be located on Court Farm for easy public access.
This is how we are building the archive - get involved!
Church of England Records & Archive to complement the Halling Museum
Someone in our Working Group suggested that we should contact the local vicar to request the involvement of the CoE archivists and using their Halling Parish archive now and in the future for exhibitions.
Existing Websites (Halling Historical Society & work by a retired librarian & archivist in Halling)
A member of the Working Group is briefing the Halling Historical Society and inviting them to future meetings of HHM. Another is working with a local librarian who has a rich archive of materials that she has already published on a Halling History website.
Ted Gowers "Across the Low Meadow", Snodland/Guildhall Museums & the Researcher re HPC
Members of the Working Group are trying to locate the materials Ted Gower used for his book on Halling. Note this was published in 1979 AND SINCE THEN NO OTHER BOOK HAS BEEN WRITTEN ABOUT HALLING!!! Ted's book is a good start as an amateur historian, but we really need professional historians & researchers to write up the village in both academic and popular works...
Tania Peitzker-Lingham's History Walks & Notes for the Ramble on Dec 2019
Tania annotated and summarised Ted Gower's and Derek Church's Across the Low Meadow for her Dec 2019 History Walk. You can get a copy of the PDF document from her by sending her a message headed "Gower Summary" via the contact page on this website. She will also do a 5 minute recording for the Podcast Series in the Gallery section of this home page.
July Fundraiser for a) Prize for Academic Research on Halling b) Amateur Historical Essay on Halling
To encourage more writing and research on Halling's "black spot" history (it is perhaps one of the few places in the UK that has not been thoroughly written about, thus it is a very desirable research topic for PhD theses!), Tania suggests creating 2 annual prizes with a cash award for the best essays on Halling. Entries for the AMATEUR ESSAY & ACADEMIC WORK categories are welcome from academics, junior researchers eg postgrads & history students, as well as locals and amateur historians.
